Pre-existing conditions

Pre-existing conditions are any injuries, illnesses, diseases or other medical, physical or mental condition or disorder that exists at the time you apply for a health plan or that existed within a certain period preceding an application. 

The Affordable Care Act prohibits health insurance companies from refusing coverage or charging more based on a pre-existing condition.
